Lovely example of a French antique bed canopy ciel de lit, used to drape fine silk or muslin over the bed opposed to the heavier drapes that were also used. They were often re purposed and found in bathrooms, bedrooms and kitchens being used as a towel rail or rack. Made from a dark hard wood, beautifully decorative it dates back to the late 19th early 20th century. It is in very good condition for its age. 59cm across.
