We are delighted to offer for sale this stunning and rare pair of Victorian Gothic Windsor Thames Valley chairs based on the early George II design. A highly collectable and iconic chair, the George II 1760 versions sell around £10-£12,000 each.

This is not an exact matching pair but the design of the chairs is close. Both are made of solid mahogany. The first (the chair on the left on the main photo) is a late Victorian version.

There is one in the Victorian and Albert museum, this is one of the closest to that actual design I have ever seen, the Georgian Irish shield top legs are very close.

The second of the pair dates to c. 1930’s and is very similar but with a slightly thicker construction and slightly less tall.

Often also referred to as the “Strawberry hill “ design after the Gothic Revival house that was remodelled by Horace Walpole in the 3rd quarter of the 18th century that futures distinct Gothic shaped windows. The most sophisticated and elegant of all Windsor chairs and the most sought after today. Both chairs are totally original, structurally sound and in great condition for their age.

There is a minor surface crack towards the front of the seat of the first chair as can be seen in the pictures. There is some age-related scratching to the second chair mostly to the seat.

DIMENSIONS: Width: 58 cm — 23”, Height: 105 cm — 41”, Depth: 53 cm — 21”
