A fantastic 19th Century antique naval trunk. Made from pine with wrought iron banding, fittings and corners. The trunk is covered in a beautifully worn white paint. There is a brass plaque to the front with the makers name for 'J. Gieve and Sons Portsmouth’. Royally appointed and originally established in 1785 and they have a rich history of outfitters to the British Royal Navy.

James Gieve & Sons purchased Matthews & Seagrove to form Gieve Matthews Seagrove in 1904. The company's name was later changed to Gieve Ltd in 1916.

Condition
